CHARACTER INFO
Character: Felix
Canon: Golden Sun, in The Lost Age after getting the Hover Jade.
Age: 18
Background Information: Felix grew up living a normal life in Vale, a village of Adepts, who can use elemental Psynergy. When he was 15, during a bad storm one day he fell into a flooding river and then got hit with a giant boulder. This duo named Saturos and Menardi saved him (and his parents and Isaac's father, they all got bowled down), and quickly turned it into a hostage situation. Turns out the storm was their fault because they were trying to steal what Vale had the one job of guarding but they failed. So they all went to Prox and then took Felix back out with them and told him if he didn't help them finish their quest, they wouldn't let the adults go.
Three years later, their little group (which now also had Alex) made it back to Vale. Nobody recognized Felix wearing the ugliest mask in the universe. They managed to follow Isaac's group to the chamber where the Elemental Stars were kept, the aforementioned guarded things. You could use these to relight the massive Elemental Lighthouses and unleash Alchemy upon the world, which was stressed as a bad thing by most who even knew about it. They got three of the four stars, then had to bolt when this one-eyed rock thing called the Wise One showed up and Mt. Aleph became a volcano. They took a scholar named Kraden and Felix's sister Jenna with them as hostages.
They went up to Mercury Lighthouse and lit it pretty quickly and easily. As they were about to leave, Isaac and his party showed up. They were trying to get the Elemental Stars back (already failed) and had the fourth one conveniently. But Felix and most of the company left before they could be in the boss fight. After that, they worked their way to Venus Lighthouse. On the way they ended up in a desert where monsters were making sand tornados and discovered Sheba there after the soldiers who'd held her hostage all got taken out. Saturos and Menardi realized she was an Adept, so then they held her hostage!
The lighthouse wasn't much farther away. After they reached the aerie, Felix got sent down with Jenna and Kraden to go wait on the boat that was parked nearby. Instead, he let Jenna and Kraden head out and went back up because Saturos and Menardi were still keeping Sheba with them on the top. He was arguing with them about letting her go when Isaac's crew turned up again. Saturos and Menardi died in the ensuing boss fights after turning into a two-headed dragon, but they got the lighthouse lit anyway. This caused a massive earthquake that knocked Sheba over the edge. When she finally fell after clinging for a bit, Felix made the completely rational decision to save her by jumping after her.
Shockingly, this actually worked out and they ended up in the ocean and had to swim to the place with the boat where the others were waiting. By this point they were all on the lighthouse lighting quest willingly for various reasons, and without Saturos and Menardi, Felix was in charge. Then there was a tidal wave and they had to spend a lot of time trying to find a new boat. Alex had Alexed out of the group, and they met another Adept named Piers who was from the ancient island Lemuria. He had a boat, and they went to Lemuria where they found out that with Alchemy sealed away, their world was actually shrinking and dying. So it was definitely a good idea to light the lighthouses even though the results were going to be disastrous. They also ran into Menardi's sister Karst and her battle partner Agatio, and she was not happy to hear that her sister was dead. Cue revenge arc.
So they finally got to Jupiter Lighthouse, and right as they were ready to light it, Karst attacked Isaac's group because of course they managed to catch up to them at another lighthouse. Felix and his group decided to help their old friends and stopped the attack. When he got the third beacon lit, Karst and Agatio turned on him and tried to kill him, but that failed and they left with the Mars Star. Conveniently Mars Lighthouse was in Prox, but Felix was told by the powers that be that those two wouldn't be able to ignite it and they had to go after them and do it themselves. Both parties talked it out and Isaac and company realized they probably should help them light it.
Then there's other things that happen, they got the Mars Star back and basically left Karst and Agatio to die after they'd been turned into boss fight dragons, and got to the last aerie. But then, the Wise One turned back up and was pretty pissed at Isaac's abysmal failure. They learned that Alex basically manipulated everyone into doing this right now for his sake, then the Wise One set a giant three-headed dragon on them. Have you noticed a pattern with the dragon thing? Yep, after the final boss-ing, turns out the three were actually the three adults that Prox had been holding hostage. Felix lit the beacon, the Golden Sun formed over Mt. Aleph, and somehow the Psynergy from the lighthouse saved the grown ups.
Everyone went back to Vale for their happy ending party only to discover that the entire town had been wiped out by the Golden Sun, since it basically exploded its way into existence. But luckily the Wise One wasn't a total douche and everybody had managed to evacuate and then they have the happy ending party. Outside.
Personality:
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
People tend to have a generally positive opinion of Felix when they first meet him. On multiple occasions various people call him kind, one of whom hadn't even spoken to him but said she could tell by looking at him. They're certainly not wrong; he does indeed care quite a lot about other people and will go to great lengths to help them. He's also concerned about keeping them safe in the first place. Felix makes several comments to Saturos, Menardi, and Alex implying that he had them promise they wouldn't hurt anyone or include people who weren't involved in their quest to light the Elemental Lighthouses as a condition of his assistance.
They also quite often underestimate him at a first glance. Various people will comment on how he's not what they expected when they heard he'd done some heroic task for them. The people of Prox especially say he was just an unimpressive kid when he first arrived there. In some cases, they can't even believe he's done the things he accomplished. But it's also stressed that he has no interest in receiving any acclaim or reward for his actions.
He's someone people can very easily put their faith in. Even after everyone learns about his involvement in the theft at Sol Sanctum, many people in Vale take comfort in how likely it is that Jenna and Kraden will be safe because Felix is there. At least one person makes it clear that he still totally believes in Felix and isn't worried about his motives. Many of the people he encounters on his travels barely know him when they ask for his help. Finally, when he's ordered to take the Mars Star from a half-dead Isaac, the other teen says he trusts Felix and lets him take it even though he doesn't know Felix's motives and has been chasing him across continents trying to get the Elemental Stars from him.
2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
As mentioned above, Felix seems to be mostly driven by his concern for other people. He's set on igniting the beacons of all four Elemental Lighthouses for the vast majority of the time we see him. At first he was only motivated by the fact that his parents and Isaac's father Kyle were being held hostage in Prox, and the condition for freeing them was his help completing the quest. Along the way, he ends up learning that this is actually going to save the world from withering and dying, so then it becomes a goal he's doing for everyone.
Alex mentions that he thinks that helping others is what makes Felix happy, and that it's what he truly wants to do the most. It's why he can't just leave Isaac's party behind when they fell into Karst and Agatio's trap, even though the duo saw it as betraying them. It also leads to the whole to-do at Venus Lighthouse because he refuses to leave Sheba in potential danger.
He also tries to keep the peace as much as possible. He intended to be in and out of Vale by wearing a mask and having no one recognize him, even though he had family there who thought he was dead at the time. He also chooses to run from Isaac at Venus Lighthouse rather than fighting. Later, Kraden talks about how they wouldn't terrorize people into doing what they wanted like Karst and Agatio would. But it should be noted that he won't back down from a potential fight if it comes to that.
3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
Although it may sound like it so far, Felix really isn't the typical pure protagonist you see in a lot of adventure stories. One of his more glaring troubles in the story is the shame he feels about betraying Vale and taking the Elemental Stars. It's why he spends a lot of time avoiding Isaac, and why he's so unhappy about all of the other people from town who ended up getting involved in it. He would rather be the villain alone than to have other people get in trouble. Because of this, he can come off as rather terse and perfunctory. He won't take the time to explain to Isaac that his father is actually alive; Felix just tells him to wait and see what happens.
Alex says that once Felix gets an idea in his head, he rarely changes his mind. On the one hand, this can make him very stubborn. He can get so set on an idea that he becomes defiant, like when he argues with Saturos and Menardi about leaving Sheba at Venus Lighthouse. Saturos says they never let him fight because he has a rebellious attitude. His stubbornness can also make him act very rashly. The most obvious example of this is when he's so set on not letting Sheba die, he actually jumps off the top of a lighthouse that was at least hundreds of feet tall. If the both of them weren't Adepts, that probably wouldn't have ended pleasantly.
Felix can get angry easily, as well. He instantly snaps at Menardi for shoving Jenna, and then he yells at Saturos for yelling at Sheba. Although it's a scene without dialogue, we also see him get mad enough at the mayor of Alhafra that he actually jumps a couple of times. Although this can happen quickly, it doesn't happen often, at least, and as per his usual nature it's usually for someone else's sake.
Abilities & Inventory: Felix is going to be the equivalent of a level 30 Lord in the game. He will also come with six Djinn (more later), his outfit, and three Psynergy-granting items: the Grindstone, Scoop Gem, and Tremor Bit. More on those coming up, too.
Psynergy is basically elemental magic spawn by mental energy, and also a tattoo here. The skills he would have directly from the game are:

Psynergy is basically elemental magic spawn by mental energy, and also a tattoo here. The skills he would have directly from the game are:
- Retreat — A power that, in game, allows the player to go to the beginning of dungeons from almost any point. I think that works here, but let me know if it needs nerfing or altering.
- Move – A standard power for Venus Adepts
and Garetthat can move larger items one space in any possible direction per use. This is mostly useful when the item is in an area where it cannot be pushed by physical force. You'd be surprised how often this happens. - Sand — A special technique that only Felix knows after obtaining it in Gaia Rock. Sand allows the user to meld into any open area of sand or loose soil with enough free space to support their full body mass (i.e. no rocks or plants over where he enters). He can then move under the surface as far as the loose ground can support him, kind of like Bugs Bunny but without displacing stuff as badly. Others can do this with him, too!
- Cure series — Three spells of varying strength that restore HP. So basically just healing. Because the protag should do it, dammit.
- Quake series — These are three attacks that shake the ground to hurt enemies, and as it increases in power, the amount of both the tremors and the number of enemies it can affect increases.
- Spire series — Felix can do the first two of these attacks at his current point. They work by dropping sharp, pointy rocks on enemies. Much like Quake, the Spire series increases the size of the stalactites dropped. It can also only affect one enemy in the earliest stage, but goes to three in the higher two.
- Ragnarok — This is a strong attack where a single enemy is hit by a very large sword made of Psynergy falling from the sky. It's as awesome as it sounds, yes.
- Gaia series — This is another one where Felix only has the first two levels available. The Gaia attacks affect a small group of enemies and involve the earth basically opening up and going "RAWR, HAVE SOME LIGHT WITH ROCKS IN IT".
- Revive — In the games, Revive is capable of fully restoring one character's HP from 0. Obviously I wouldn't expect him to be able to bring back the dead with it in this setting, but I'm not sure if there's some equivalent to "no HP but not dead" that could be used instead.
- Odyssey — As implied, a powered up version of Ragnarok. A single enemy is hit by two big Psynergy swords intercrossing and one really big sword in the middle. This obviously does more damage than its counterpart.
- Grind — This can wear down a large spire into a small rock that is easily passed over. It happens in a matter of seconds.
- Scoop — As it sounds, Scoop is pretty much just a way to dig without a shovel.
- Tremor — Tremor causes a small earthquake in one room that is good for knocking items off of shelves. That's about it. Maybe it can do something else reasonable here.
As for the actual Djinn themselves, he has:
- Echo — Echo gives Felix an Earth-powered double strike attack, starting with a downward blow followed by an uppercut. He's (she's?) also canonly one of three that speaks, and is a persistent little brat who doesn't take "No" for an answer.
- Iron — Iron increases the defense of Felix and up to three other allies by a fourth of whatever their defensive power is.
- Steel — This Djinni lets Felix do a physical attack with 30% more strength, though it is Earth-powered. It also converts half of the power used in the attack into a bit more HP for Felix.
- Mud — This one shoots mud at all of Felix's opponents and slows them down. In the game it's by half, but it's probably better for RP to just say it's in general.
- Flower — Flower restores 30% of HP to Felix and up to 3 allies.
- Petra — This Djinni affects one enemy and freezes it when it tries to do the first attack after Felix uses it.
- Venus — [1] A spirit of the power of earth appears and does a light amount of damage to all of Felix's enemies.
- Ramses — [2] The guardian of an immortal pharaoh, which kind of looks like a pyramid with a head and floating hands, appears and causes boulders to crash down on all of Felix's opponents, dealing a moderate amount of damage.
- Cybele — [3] The great mother of the earth appears, which is apparently a big brown frog thing with trees on its head, and spits magic seeds into the ground. They immediately grow into thick, tall vines, which shoot Felix's opponents into the air and drops them seconds later when the vines vanish. A medium-high amount of damage is done.
- Judgment — [4] A giant flying winged suit of armor with horns, a sword in one hand, and a lion head in the other appears and causes a mini-apocalypse that only ends up harming Felix's current enemies. This does a high amount of damage and, as you can probably imagine from that description, is all kinds of awesome.
ARMADA SELECTION
I think Cosairs is a better fit for Felix because while he tries to do the right thing, he's not afraid to completely shatter the status quo to do it. He initially supported the Elemental Lighthouses quest just to free his parents and Kyle; saving the world was kind of a happy coincidence. Also, within canon the general opinion of him in his homeland fits the Corsair image, particularly in the third game where the summaries of the first two make him out to be the main villain and Isaac the overall hero.
From a player perspective, I think it would be interesting because it will keep the fact that he's considered a traitor to Vale in his mind while he's here, which would affect his opinion of himself and therefore his actions. In a weird way I think it could make him more open to different things than being a Paladin would, too.
But he could be a Paladin. He definitely wants to help people in need, keep innocents from getting harmed, and he'd rather be the only "bad guy" in a situation where someone has to be one. Basically, he does care more about how others are doing than about himself. He generally supports law and order on a small scale, though this can mean defying the powers that be if they're the bad people.
